Faux Bone™ Forming Tool

The Faux Bone™ forming tool can be used to round over and finish
edges of Faux Bone™, remove burrs and nicks from sawing, and shape
interior and exterior curves. It is low-tech, friendly and easy to use.

The forming tool is what I use to round over the inside of the bracelets and it
couldn’t be easier. The instructions for use are in the instruction/potential
sheets that come with your order of Faux Bone™ or bracelet blanks.
Just a note that the blade of the tool is meant to pivot around the end
of the handle, it’s not broken if it moves.

It is equally useful on other materials including wood, plastics and metal.
To use the forming tool on flat sheets or straight-sided shapes, just place
the blade on the corner of the edge to be rounded and pull gently toward you.
The forming tool removes a thin coil of material as it leaves a smooth, even edge.
A bit of fine sanding and the edges are rounded, smooth and finished.
The forming tool is easier than a file and faster than just sandpaper.

Special pivot-head pin vice/drill.

The pivot-head pin vice/drill pictured here is the best one I’ve found.
You can keep constant pressure on the drill while spinning the barrel and
all this with just one hand, leaving the other hand to steady the work-piece.
Easy to drill at an angle or make partial holes. One of my favorite uses is
for surface texture – especially in Faux Bone™, polymer clay and metal clay.
Just rest it on the surface, give a quick twist and you have a perfect little dot.
Make lots of dots for a terrific texture or rub in paint for a polka dot design.
With the 4 collets included (they store right in the handle) the vice/drill will
take any size drill from the very thinnest all the way to 1/8”.

Special Faux Bone™saw blades.

These blades are really extraordinary!!! Since I have been using these
blades, I rarely ever break a blade and I can use the same one for weeks
at a time. They are specially made from hardened steel and fit any standard
jeweler’s saw frame however, unlike regular jeweler’s saw blades, they won’t
break if flexed or twisted. They also don’t bind in the Faux Bone™ or almost
any other material such as Plexiglas or lexan where binding can present a
constant problem. The blades are available in two sizes; fine for materials
from 1/16” to 1/4" and medium for material from 1/4" to 1/2".
This means that if you are working in 1/4" you can use either blade.
The difference is that the fine blade leaves just a little smoother cut.
Spiral blades, commonly used for Plexiglas, leave a very ragged edge,
however these blades leave a smooth edge that can be finished with
just a bit of filing and/or sanding. These blades are not meant for
metal but are terrific with almost any other material such as wood,
laminates, bookbinders board, or non-metallic found objects.

Faux Bone™ Bracelet Blanks

These bracelet blanks are the same ones used to make all the bracelets
you see on my website. They come with a 2 ½” hole which when
rounded over with the Faux Bone™ shaping tool or conventional files,
leaves a 2 5/8” hole - the standard hole for most bracelets. If you want
a little larger opening, just take a bit more off the inside until it fits just
like you want it. The bracelet can be finished in any way you choose and it
can even be curved or bent by simply heating with an embossing heat gun,
holding the bracelet in the form you want and let it cool. If you don’t like the
resulting form, just heat it again. It will return to flat and you can try it again…
and again and again. The blanks come in 1/4" & 1/8" (most of the bracelets
on my site are 1/4") and 1/2" and are available individually or in a sheet of 4.

Plexiglas™ sheets for Bead Making

Plexiglas™ is easily worked with a minimum of fuss and yields beads
that are unlike any that can be made with any other material.
The tools needed are rudimentary and aside from the regular safety
considerations, no special precautions need be taken. Plexiglas™ is a brand
name of a type of “acrylic sheet plastic” that has many and varied uses
in all facets of art making. It can be sawn, filed, drill, tapped, bent, and
polished. 1/16” Plexiglas™ sheets in three colors; black, white and clear.

Microfastener Kits

COLD CONNECTIONS:
Or how to love PMC without having to carry a torch for it

Use these microfasteners to add a different dimension to your cold
connections. Most of the microfasteners I use are equivalent to 14 gauge
wire (#80) in bolt talk. I use them as I would a rivet. The beauty of using
a microfastener is you can assemble and re-assemble a piece you are working
on countless times. I find this important when I am working on a piece
which may be fragile or brittle and that would not stand the stress of riveting.

Microfastener Assortment includes (4) 0-80 brass hex nuts,
(4) 2-56 brass flat head machine screws, (2) 2-56 brass inserts,(4) 0-80 brass hex head machine screw, (4) 2-56 brass hex head machine screw, (4) 2-56 plated blind nuts,
(4) 2-56 plated Philips head machine screws, (4) 2-56 plain socket head
cap screw and (4) #2 plated socket head sheet metal screws..
